- As a way of trying to keep him out of trouble, Johnny’s mum bought him his first guitar at the age of 12. It cost $25.
- When he finally emerged from his room as a competent ‘garage rocker’, Johnny joined a band. They performed in nightclubs around Florida...
- ...although as he was still underage, he would have to sneak in via the back door and leave after the band’s first set!
- After a while the band re-named, calling themselves The Kids. Under this name they started to take off, supporting bands such as The B-52s and artists including Iggy Pop.
- Johnny remembers swearing at Iggy Pop... Iggy called him a “little turd” and then ignored him.
- In search of a record deal, The Kids headed to Los Angeles - changing their name to Six Gun Method.
- Johnny collaborated with Rock City Angels (who were signed to David Geffen’s label) and co-wrote Mary.
- This song is featured on their debut album under a different title: Young Man’s Blues.
- Johnny also played side guitar on the Oasis song Fade In-Out.
- Johnny features on the soundtrack of Once Upon a Time in Mexico. Track nine - Sands (Theme) - is credited to Tonto’s Giant Nuts but was in fact written by Johnny who thought up the name as a joke.
