LAMOUR IS DEFINITELY NOT EFFORTLESS, and neither is writing a book about how to look that way! I owe thanks to many people, including my agent, Peter Steinberg, for making this happen in the first place. My editor, Rebecca Kaplan, was helpful and enthusiastic through the entire publishing process, and Jennifer Levesque was a supporter from the start. I want to sincerely thank everyone at Abrams Image who turned my ideas into this beautiful book. And I have to thank my collaborator, the wonderfully fabulous Meghan Stevenson, who helped turn my many proclamations into the great advice you just read.
I’m also grateful to Art Streiber, who made me look like a movie star on the cover! But we also had help from Tibor Balazs, who hand-dyed the gorgeous Gaspar gloves just for me and Wendy Block, who agreed to let us shoot at her house and photograph her arms, (which conveniently came with a 12K diamond rock on her finger. Also, thanks to Torsten Witte for grooming my locks and powdering my nose.
In Hollywood, I have to thank Kent Belden and everyone at MMA for getting me here, as well as Brett Ruttenberg for sharing nice words about me. Ryan Haddon, there is so much more to come! I owe my start in fashion to Elizabeth Stewart, and in television to Cass Brownstein, who gave me my first hosting gig. I also want to sincerely thank Annie Roberts, who kept me on her casting list, and Kevin McClellan at E!, who took a chance on me. Without all of you, I wouldn’t be here.
I also absolutely need to thank my truly glamorous cohosts Joan Rivers, Kelly Osbourne, and Giuliana Rancic, who keep me laughing on the set of Fashion Police week after week. These ladies make going to work a complete pleasure. I also want to sincerely thank every single person at E! (and beyond) who has had a hand in making our show such a success, including executive producers Melissa Rivers and Lisa Bacon, as well as producer Vanessa Katona, who takes time every week to talk about the looks we review on the show, and especially Ryan Randall, who makes me look good in every single episode.
My friends and family helped keep me sane while writing this book. Wendy Block is a dear friend (and “benefactor”) when I most need it; William Holloway and Jean Louis Denoit helped me think beyond my world (and shared their world with me); and Magda Berliner was always there for me to talk shop when I needed to whine.
Last but not least, I simply would not have become the stylist I am today without watching my big sisters create their beauty looks during the 1980s, so I have to thank my family for that experience and millions more, all of which created who I am today. My brave sister Jean even agreed to let me share her waist-cincher transformation in this book! Thanks to my entire family. I may not get back to Illinois as much or as often as I would like, but I love you all very, very much.
