THIRD DOG DEAD!

By Editor-in-Chief, Erin Mackie

In shocking news, it appears the Ripton Canine Killer has struck again. A dog was found dead in its garden in the centre of the village of Ripton late Sunday afternoon. It was discovered by its owner, 68-year-old Rita Townsend, who said: ‘I’d gone to put some food out for the birds and I thought it was a badger at first. When I went closer, I saw it was Chequers. My heart broke, I’ve had him for ten years.’

Chequers, a border terrier, was taken to Ripton vet’s where his death was established to be kidney failure – much like the recently deceased pets already reported in this paper. Mrs Townsend had no reason to think poor Chequers had ingested any poison at home, so has the Canine Killer struck again? Rita Townsend had this to say about her pet in the lead-up to his untimely death: ‘We had gone for our usual walk along Heron Water and Chequers was fine. He slept perhaps a little more than usual in the afternoon, but it didn’t seem anything to worry about. I let him out into the garden around teatime, as he likes to watch next door’s cat in their window, and when I came out a bit later he was lying on the grass. It’s impossible to believe he’s gone.’

You guys might have seen my article today in the paper . . . Keep an eye on your pets. 14:02

So sad. 14:02

I’ve been thinking about this . . . Maybe it’s got something to do with the pool Nancy’s built. Has it interrupted the natural flow of things? Added to the algae? 14:03

Lorna Fielding, Phoenix’s mum

Oh wow, I had no idea that could happen. 14:04

Hannah Chapman, Jakob’s mum

It can’t. That’s a load of nonsense. 14:05

Imogen Wood, Rosie’s mum

Not necessarily. You see these climate change issues all the time from man-made changes to the landscape. 14:05

There’s the water table, isn’t there? Or at least that’s what I remember from my long-ago school days!!! Cry Laugh emoji 14:06

Yh, digging such a big hole, just for her own pool. Maybe that’s done something to the flow in the reservoir. 14:06

Hannah Chapman, Jakob’s mum

You’re nuts. 14:07

Erin Mackie, Tilly’s mum

Well it wasn’t like that before. So explain that! 14:07

Lorna Fielding, Phoenix’s mum

Hey guys, are we doing a Xmas collection for Miss Young this year? 14:09

Nicole Wilson, Bella’s mum

Sure. 14:10

Lorna Fielding, Phoenix’s mum

I’m happy to organize. Shall we say ten pounds per child, or whatever you would like to give? 14:11

Erin Mackie, Tilly’s mum

Thanks, Lorna. Appreciate you taking this on. 14:11

Lorna Fielding, Phoenix’s mum

No problem. Warm Smile emoji 14:12
