About the Author

Carl Johan Calleman was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He received a Ph.D. in physical biology from the University of Stockholm in 1984. He has been a senior researcher at the Department of Environmental Health at the University of Washington, Seattle, and has served as an expert on cancer for the World Health Organization. He has authored or coauthored articles that have been quoted more than 1,500 times in the scientific literature. Calleman is recognized as the main proponent of the idea that the Mayan calendar reflects the evolution of consciousness. He has previously written four books on this topic: Solving the Greatest Mystery of Our Time: The Mayan Calendar (Garev, 2001), The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness (Inner Traditions, 2004, translated into thirteen different languages), The Purposeful Universe (Inner Traditions, 2009), and The Global Mind and the Rise of Civilization (Bear & Company, 2016).
