Lifting one stitch over the next secures the stitches and makes a neat edge for the knitting. Working every stitch as a knit stitch will give a chain effect on the edge; binding off in pattern will give a softer edge.
Lift over
Work the first two stitches. Use the point of the left needle to lift the first stitch over the second stitch and off the needle. Work the next stitch, so there are two stitches on the right needle. Lift one stitch over and off the right needle. Continue until there is one stitch left on the right needle.
Fasten off
Break yarn, draw end through, and pull it tight to secure the last stitch.
