ALFONSO SCARCELLI LOOKED at his watch and grimaced. In a few hours his future wife would land in America. If he had a say in the matter, he would call off the whole thing, but his dad had stressed the importance of this union. This wedding would join two powerful families, one here in America and the other in Sicily.
Frankie Scarcelli planned on moving back to Sicily once he was comfortable leaving the business here in New Orleans under Alfonso’s care. He didn’t trust that his new partners in Sicily would keep him apprised of everything; he wanted to be nearby to keep an eye on things. They were venturing into several new territories that involved a lot of dough, plus they needed to make sure their cargo was kept safe.
Alfonso had heard that the other mafia families were also looking into human trafficking. It took a while for him to convince his dad that human trafficking would be profitable. Normally the Family business stayed out of smuggling goods and prostitution, but after showing his dad the numbers, he’d changed his mind. If done right, this would be very profitable. They could send the girls from Italy over here and vice versa.
If the rumors were true, it wouldn’t take long for everyone to jump on this bandwagon, especially if the money were easy. The difficult thing would be kidnapping the girls and keeping them under control, but he was working on a plan for that as well. This was New Orleans after all and several people around here practiced voodoo. The key would be finding someone that practiced black magic and had no problems casting the spells he needed. It would take someone who had no regard for human life. He heard that there was also a large voodoo community in Tennessee and New York; so surely, he would find someone willing to help him.
When he asked around about voodoo priests and priestesses, he was given two names that sounded promising. One was Bianca Honore, who’d just moved back down here from New York. The other was a voodoo priestess who’d moved here from Haiti. He found a lot of research on the voodoo practiced in Haiti and it did involve black magic. What interested him was the Haitians had a way to turn the living into the walking dead.
Turning his enemies into the walking dead and having them serve as his slaves was worth considering. Just the thought of having some of his most hated enemies serving him dinner excited him. Plus, all of the labor costs that he could save by having a sweatshop run by zombies. He rubbed his hands together as his mind ran through all the possibilities. This would also keep the girls under control.
