THE AIRPORT WAS CROWDED. Travelers rushed along the busy corridors with a set purpose, to get somewhere. Alexis listened to the wheels of the other travelers’ luggage making a whirling noise across the floor. A monotonous male voice echoed through the terminal giving instructions for lost bags and gate changes.
Guy Mayon stood beside her waiting for their turn to board the plane. They both kept an eye out for any of Dominic’s henchmen. He kept one hand firmly on her elbow in case he needed to direct her in another direction quickly. Her heart hadn’t stopped pounding since that fateful night he rescued her. She still had no idea how they had escaped with their very lives or the lives of those girls that were being held captive, but they did. Each of the girls held captive had been returned to their homes or had been relocated where they no longer had to worry about Dominic or Bianca.
Alexis still couldn’t believe any of this was real. She was running for her life. He glanced down at her and his eyes showed such strength and confidence.
She didn’t know if she could find that strength inside of her. Her whole world seemed to be coming to an end. What would happen to her? What would Dominic do to her family? Would he kill them for retribution or would he keep eyes and ears on them in case she tried to contact them?
She couldn’t take her eyes off of the various passengers; always fearing one of them was hired by Dominic to take care of her. There were so many different types of people here. Some had long flowing hair while others had short hair and others were even bald. There were some overweight and some that looked anorexic. Each person had some place they were going. Each person here had their own hopes and dreams waiting to be realized. Her hopes and dreams came crashing to an end that night in the warehouse. Dominic’s hatred for her became evident when she went looking for answers to her questions in his warehouse; she saw where she fit into his world. He’d planned to get rid of her that very night.

GUY LOOKED DOWN AT his damsel in distress. Her complexion was still pale, almost gray. It was almost as if her spirit was taken from her. He wondered if that voodoo priestess managed to work a spell on her. Her eyes were lifeless, the rims red and bloodshot. He asked, “Are you okay?”

TRYING TO SOUND UNAFFECTED by everything that happened, she replied, “I’m getting there.”
As Alexis headed out into the unknown, she prayed that the rumors were true and that Dominic had been arrested. Still, she didn’t feel safe knowing that he was behind bars. Thankfully, Guy Mayon listened to her pleas to not let the cops know that she was alive. Her husband had many friends in not only the New Orleans Police Department but she was fairly certain the FBI as well. No, she would take her chances keeping herself hidden. She was grateful she had enough sense to hide money when she witnessed him doing business with the Scarcellis. Money would do her no good if she was dead, but at least now she would be able to hide in comfort. She had not yet told Guy Mayon that she had more than enough money to live on. She was fairly sure that she could trust him, but she was not one hundred percent certain. Until she was sure, she would keep the money well hidden.
As they prepared to board the plan, a news report flashed across the screen. It appeared Dominic’s betrayal went further than she realized. Not only was he having several affairs on her, but he was sleeping with Scarcelli’s wife. They were both arrested in his death. Alexis smiled at the thought of everything Bianca was liable to do to the man now that his betrayal was known. The prison system would not permit him to keep his little Gris Gris bag. Bianca would be planning her revenge soon.
Even with Dominic’s arrest, there was no reason for her to stay. All that remained here were bad memories. It was time for her to start a new life, somewhere far away from here. With Guy Mayon’s help, she planned on doing just that.
