This works for breakfast, brunch, dinner, or supper.
¼ cup butter
¼ cup all-purpose flour
⅓ cup white wine
2 cups milk
¼ teaspoon black pepper
1¼ cups shredded white Cheddar cheese
2 (2.5-ounce) jars dried beef, chopped
Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat and stir in the flour. Cook until smooth, stirring constantly. Whisk in the wine and continue to stir. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture is thick. Add the black pepper and cheese, stirring until the cheese melts. Add the beef and cook just until heated through. Serve over hot biscuits or toast.
Makes 4 to 6 servings.
