Hot to Fox Trot Chocolate

This is the perfect way to start off a midnight breakfast.

¼ cup firmly packed brown sugar

⅔ cup sugar

¼ cup cocoa powder

⅛ teaspoon salt

⅓ cup hot water

8 cups milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 (4.25-ounce) chocolate candy bar broken into small pieces, optional

Peppermint candy crushed, optional

Miniature marshmallows, optional

1 cup whipped topping, thawed and mixed with 2 teaspoons cocoa powder, optional

In a 3-quart saucepan stir together the sugars, cocoa powder, salt, and hot water. Bring to a boil. Add the milk and vanilla extract, stirring constantly. Bring back to a simmer, but do not boil. Serve immediately. For serving, have the candy pieces, peppermint candy, marshmallows, and whipped topping in small bowls for individual choices.
