Poem with Possibly Misconstrued Scientific Terms

When the poet says geomorphic cryosphere,

you relax thinking at least it’s not physics again,

but after three lines this poem needs a glossary.

Umweldt and aufeis.

Imagine the frustrated scientist

at the residency taking another deep breath

before starting an explanation again.

Train your eyes on the poet

with the blank stare you learned

while not paying attention in right field,

Remember Big League Chew,

how you’d sit on the bleachers

shoving pinch after pinch

into your mouth until

your cheek was so swollen

with sweet gumclot

nothing you said

made sense.
