Chapter 1

“Did you get my text message, Alyssia?,” Daxton asked me over the phone.

“Yes, I did.”

“Are you dressed up and ready to go?”

“Uh, yes...why?”

I heard a knock at the door.

“Let me guess...”

I walked over to the door, opened it and standing there was...damn.

Daxton...looked...hot. Hotter than I cared to admit to him. After all, three dates was it. I was not going down this road again. But I could not fool him. There he was, cell phone in hand. He gave me a sexy smile as he put his phone back in his pocket. He knew the effect he was having on me. I swallowed.

“Alyssia, you look...”

“Save it, Daxton.”

He playfully put his hands up in front of him.

“Whoa, is this how you receive compliments?”

“From you...yes. Get used to it.”

“Why so harsh today?”

“Because it’s three dates and I’m not stupid. I know what you’re doing.”

“Oh...do you?”

He snickered as he put his hands on my waist and kissed me on the neck. I let out a moan. He had caught me off guard. He then whispered in my ear.

“Face it, baby, you know there’s something amazing happening between us.”

He kissed my lips briefly before I took a step back.

“No, I know that you’re just good at...what you do.”

“Ha...what I do...that’s a new one.”

“Oh please, Daxton. You don’t give me the time you’re coming over so you can catch me off guard. You whisper in my ear. You’re a heartbreaker if I ever knew one.”

He looked deep into my eyes and put his hands on my cheeks.

“I...promise you...Alyssia...what I feel for you is real and I know you feel it too.”

“You don’t know me.”

“Not as much as I’d like to, but I’ll tell you what I do know. Someone broke your heart and it hurt you so much that the only possible way to keep yourself safe is to keep every man at arm’s length, even when you meet the one man that changes everything for you.”

I rolled my eyes. He looked into them and leaned in closer.

“If I doubted for one second that you didn’t feel something for me, I wouldn’t even have bothered to ask you out on three dates. I would have thanked you for a good time and wished you well. Now...now I’ve never been so sure of any woman in my life.”

I was actually curious now.

“How can you possibly know that much about us in such a brief amount of time?”

“Because I feel it. That’s the only way there is to know, Alyssia. You have to trust your feelings.”

He held my hand to his chest.

“So tell me, Alyssia...what do you feel right now?”

I looked into his eyes and, as I started to speak, I temporarily lost my filter.

“I feel...like...like I don’t know...what it means and...”

He smiled and waited patiently for me to finish, knowing exactly what I couldn’t let myself say.

“I don’t know how to tell you that...”

He caressed my cheek, his face looking hopeful that I could say it out loud.

“That I’m...losing my patience because I can’t wait to go wherever it is we’re going in this hot skirt.”

His face fell. He could see I wasn’t ready. Then he smiled.

“You do look really hot in that skirt, baby.”

He then whispered in my ear one more time.

“I know, Alyssia...I know. I’m going to make you forget all about him.”

I sighed. He nodded, accepting of where I was at. Then, he took my hand.

“So, are we ready to party?”

I perked up.

“Party?”

“I hope you like dancing.”

“You’re taking me to a club?”

“Only if you like dancing.”

I squealed and clapped my hands. He laughed.

“Awesome.”

I started to walk towards the car but he grabbed my waist and spun me around to hold me in his arms.

“You are so damn adorable when you’re excited, Alyssia.”

He kissed me quickly on the lips and then helped me into the car and off we went.
