In studying this word list, you will want to be familiar with the following abbreviations:

• (n) noun: a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea
• (v) verb: an action word
• (adj) adjective: a word that modifies a noun
• (adv) adverb: a word that modifies a verb, adjective, or other adverb
