Blending With Colored Pencil

A variety of blending techniques can be used to produce shading or to combine colors.

Burnishing

Apply layers of color with firm pressure to achieve an opaque, shiny look

Layering

With light to medium pressure, lay one color atop another.

Crosshatching

Apply one color with parallel strokes, then add other colors similarly but at different angles.

Crosshatched Colored Pencil

The white of the paper is surrounded by blues in a crosshatched effect combined with a group of free gestural curves. The orange acts as visual punctuation.
