Using Depth to Show Perspective

When using perspective, remember that the sizes of objects in the distance must become smaller. Vertical lines remain vertical, but horizontal lines become angled as they recede and converge toward the horizon line, whether or not you perceive the change. The illusion of depth is enhanced with overlapping forms.

Create a Sense of Depth

This wash drawing demonstrates how the combination of overlapping forms, converging lines and scale change can create a sense of depth. The large, bold foreground elements are set off by the more distant elements as well as the background figure.
