Glossaries

The glossaries included here are intended to serve as a useful reference for the herbalist or healing arts professional who wishes to create herbal formulas for a wide variety of conditions. Here you’ll find a glossary of herbal actions (properties) that are commonly described in herbal medicine, as well as a “primer” in chemical constituents to give a general background as to the efficacy of herbs and their abilities to interact with the human body and mind. Additionally, two glossaries focus on tonics since the basis of herbal medicine is to support and nourish.

Please use common sense in your approach to plant medicine, understanding that specific drug-herb interactions and contraindications are beyond the scope of these glossaries. For drug-herb interactions, please consult with your trusted health care practitioner or knowledgeable pharmacist.
