Accommodation

From quirky B&Bs and yurts to to country manors and luxury spa hotels, Jersey caters for all tastes.

To rejuvenate Jersey’s image several of the top hotels have undergone multi-million-pound revamps, and a quarter of the hotel guest rooms are now within the 4- and 5-star range. This is all good news if your pockets are well-lined; finding cheap accommodation in Jersey is not so easy.

The self-catering scene in Jersey has been looking up in recent years with more seaside accommodation to rent and, for the adventurous, the opportunity to stay in historic monuments and follies which have been restored by Jersey Heritage (www.jerseyheritage.org/stay/heritage-lets). These range from “stone hut” accommodation in 19th-century seafront fortresses or towers to a stylish 1930s boat-shaped folly on the beach and a panoramic German Occupation observation tower.

The Jersey Club

To find the best deals book online, either through Visit Jersey or specialist operators, or choose your hotel and book direct through them. It’s worth comparing costs – sometimes a package through the hotel can work out to be the cheapest option. Typical special offers are three nights for the price of two or free car hire for stays of at least three nights. Off-season room rates can fall dramatically, and there are some great deals at some of the hotels that remain open in winter.

For rooms in July and August book well ahead. Supplements are nearly always charged for sea-view rooms. Check the cost – it’s often worth a little extra per night for the fabulous view you could wake up to.

Where to Stay

St Helier isn’t the most attractive centre on Jersey, and budget accommodation is limited; but it does have the best sightseeing and shopping, and buses from here will take you all over the island.

Many holidaymakers prefer to stay in smaller centres such as the picturesque ports of St Aubin or Gorey, or on the beautiful beach of St Brelade’s. All three have an excellent choice of restaurants and good bus links.
