CHAPTER TWENTY

Hawk

Hawk growled with anger and relief when he saw his little bird standing next to Doc in the wide open factory doors. But relief disappeared when he got closer. His woman stood there dressed in black from head to toe. Her hair was in a tight braid down her back, lying against a long sleeved and high necked black tee. The only skin visible was her face and hands. But it was when he looked down into those icy black eyes that he knew he could lose her.

And suddenly he didn’t give a flying fuck about the shit that had brought him here. All he cared about was his little bird. Cupping her face in his palms he tipped her head up and fitted his lips over her cold mouth. It took some persuasion before those lips softened and started kissing him back, and when they did he lost himself in her warm welcoming mouth.

He went in even deeper when her arms slid around his waist under his jacket and his woman moved to fit her small body to his. Sliding his hand away from her face to her waist he pulled her tight against him as he slowly ended the kiss. Lifting his head he looked down into her warm eyes and growled angrily at her.

“Never, ever leave without telling me exactly where you’re going and who you’re with, little bird. That’s an unbreakable rule.”

His woman didn’t wait to snap back at him.

“Never, ever put another bitch on the back of your bike and expect me to just take that shit. It happens again and there will be blood, most of it yours.”

Hawk didn’t get a chance to answer.

“Enough.” Doc snapped. “Get inside. We have some shit to talk about.”

They were spread out in what at some time in the distant past had been a conference room. The heavily blacked out windows allowed no light in. Solar lanterns placed around the room supplied the light. There were no furniture as such, just scrounged up crates and a couple of battered chairs. Hawk sat on a crate to the side of Doc with his little bird firmly settled in his lap. She was not happy. He didn’t give a shit, he needed her close. Ice and Kid sat behind him while the rest of his brothers spread out around the room.

Doc started speaking and as he laid it out for them Hawk felt rage building higher and higher. He had a traitor in his club. Someone in a position of trust was selling them out and leaving evidence behind that implicated the club. Evidence that would have them behind bars for fucking life.

Hawk had his woman off his lap and plonked on the crate in the blink of an eye. He stormed out of the room with his phone in his hand. He had Jagger on the line as he walked out of the disused factory and into the overgrown yard.

“Jagger, I need you and Ziggy to go over every single employee that has access to trucking schedules and logistics. Everyone with access to import and export documentation at Head Office and at all our yards and offices countrywide. Check their bank accounts, their properties, fucking anything and everything you can think of. We are being set up as human traffickers, brother. Find the fucker and get Ziggy to start cleaning house. Use Dollar, Sam and Boots to help with that. Our containers and our businesses are being used to smuggle kids out of the country. There’s a container scheduled to be shipped out of Durban on a vessel by the name of Josephine tomorrow night. Find out where that container is coming from and who will be delivering it. Do a complete sweep of every single office and yard, search them all. That’s all I have right now, Jagger. Get on this, brother and if the bastard is at the office up there keep the fucker on ice until we get back.”

As Hawk talked he could hear Jagger swearing softly and his boots hitting the hard floor as he ran.

“I’m on it, Prez. Will send updates as we have them.”

Shutting his phone down Hawk stalked back into the building and into the conference room. Meeting Doc’s eyes he lifted his woman, sat down and placed her back on his lap. Her irritated growl almost made him smile, almost.

“We need to discover who this May woman is and we have to cover up the shit at the warehouse. I don’t want Speedy suspecting Boeta of messing with his business. Any suggestions?” Doc continued with the meeting.

“We burn it down.” Skelly suggested and there were nods of agreement. “We blow that fucker sky high and make it impossible for them to get anywhere near it. An explosion and hot fire will have the fire department, the fire investigators and the pigs crawling all over it. We fill the warehouse with shit that will burn hot and blow it just as he gets there. If it burns hot and long enough his informants on the force won’t be able to tell him if anyone died in the fire. At least not for a while. Plus we just happen to have our very own little firebug right here.”

Tiny gave a furious snarl.

“Your brother is supposed to stay away from that shit, Jake.”

DC stiffened and Hawk pulled her against his chest. Tiny looked about ready to explode, and using Skelly’s real name clued everyone in on how fucking pissed off he was. Suddenly this was all about blood family and not about the club.

“He’s a genius with fire, Dad. We need him on this one. And you know very well this won’t be the last time he has to do shit like this for the club. I promise I will be with him every step of the way. I won’t let this get away from him, you have my word.”

“He starts burning shit down once we get home it’s on your head and you will handle it.” Tiny growled.

Doc’s face was expressionless as he handed out their orders.

“Rover, pick two of the brothers and follow Speedy when the warehouse goes up. You stick with them. We need to know where he takes those kids. Skel, pick a team to go with you and Gav. And keep our boy from getting too creative.”

Hawk didn’t have time to wonder what that meant, as he was next on Doc’s agenda.

“Hawk, I want you and your men to keep a low profile until tomorrow night. Raj and some of the brothers are taking DC to spend some time at the beach. It will explain their sudden disappearance from the clubhouse. We need to sort accommodation for the rest of you, preferably not in the city itself.”

“That’s not a problem, Prez.” Boeta grinned. “This place is a safe house I prepared for my family when shit started to go wrong with the club. No one knows about it. There are rooms upstairs where they can crash. There’s water and solar power for hot showers and a kitchen I keep stocked. All the windows have been blacked out, and because this is an old industrial area we don’t have to worry about being seen. We pull the bikes into the loading bay and no one will know we’re here. Maklik.” (Easy)

Doc nodded slowly. “That’s good. I’d rather we stayed off the roads until it’s time. We all know what we’ve got to do. We’ll meet again before we take them down tomorrow night.”

Doc ended the meeting but he held a hand out to Hawk to keep him from leaving.

He waited until only Ice, Kid, Tiny, Skelly and Raj were in the room with them. Doc leant back in the dilapidated chair and glared at Hawk and DC.

“Now that we’ve handled that shit, how about you get your heads out of your asses and fix the fucked up shit between the two of you. I need both of you to have clear heads. We have a lot going down tomorrow and I need to know I can depend on you to pull your weight without coming to blows.”

Hawk grinned when DC growled at her dad. His woman was a total badass, no fear what so ever.

“My little bird is pissed with me. She has good reason to be pissed, but if she thinks it through she will see that I had no other options. I had to do what I did to ensure her safety. She would have done the same if she were in my shoes.”

Those snapping fierce black eyes focused on him and Hawk felt the burn down deep.

“Maybe. Maybe I would have done the same. But I would have taken the time to give you a heads up. Had I pulled this shit with one of my exes you would have lost your mind. You are lucky I didn’t kill both of you. The only thing that stopped me was that there were too many witnesses.” His little bird smirked.

Skel burst out laughing and Hawk glanced over at him before looking at the man standing next to him. He glared at the grinning bastard. Fucking Raj.

“No way would I walk into the Iron Dogz’ place of business and put my hands on you, DC. I like my life too much.” The fucker joked. “Plus he won’t give a shit about witnesses.”

“Shut up, Raj.” His little bird snarled, but her eyes were laughing. Fuck.

Hawk wanted this done, now. “Can we finish this without a fuck load of onlookers?”

Doc grinned, stood and flicked a hand at the others. The room emptied, leaving the three of them.

“Fix this. I have to get back to the clubhouse. Grizz, Rover and Alien will be with me along with the men Boeta trusts so you can stop giving me that look, DC. ” Doc ordered before he walked out.

When the door slammed shut Hawk stood and pushed DC down on the crate, then he knelt in front of his little bird, his hands on her thighs.

“I’m sorry. I fucked up. I should have called to warn you and I didn’t. I’m still getting used to sharing my life with you, baby. I can’t promise I won’t fuck up again, but I can promise that I will always be there to fix my fuck ups. Like I am now.” He rubbed his hands over her tightly clenched muscles, coaxing her to soften to him.

“I’m still pissed off at you, Hawk. You have no idea what could have happened. I don’t react like the bitches you are used to. I don’t scream, cry or throw a tantrum. I get even, any way I can. Don’t ever do that to me again.”

Hawk knew exactly what she meant. It would be the Crow who would get even with him.

“I promise, baby. I realised the minute I looked into your eyes that I had made a huge mistake. But I had to get her out of there and get the information I needed. I can’t lose you, DC.” Hawk said softly as he pulled her off the crate and into his arms.

He was still kneeling on the floor and closed his eyes as she came to him, settling herself over his thighs, her arms around his neck. He clasped her tight against his chest and shoved his face in her neck, breathing her in. Settling her scent deep in his lungs to calm his shit down.

“So relieved to have you in my arms again, little bird.” Hawk murmured against her neck then pulled back to look at her. “But we both know you have to be seen checking into a place at the beach. Where are you going to go?”

“Raj booked us into a beachfront apartment in Umhlanga. Easily verified if they check up on us. And close enough if you need us.”

Keeping her in his arms Hawk stood and sat back down on the crate, keeping her straddling his thighs.

“As long as the bastard keeps his distance he’ll keep breathing.” Hawk mumbled as he nuzzled her neck. He couldn’t get enough of her scent.

Lifting his face from her neck he slammed his mouth down, his lips softening as her lips opened under his. He licked over her full lower lip, catching it between his teeth for a soft nip before sliding his tongue in, playing with hers, and tasting her. His cock jerked as she rubbed herself against him, the heat of her pussy burning through the thick fabric of their jeans. He wanted her, so fucking badly but they couldn’t go there, not in this fucking place.

Slowly pulling away from her mouth he looked down into her hazy eyes and smiled. She was as gone as he was, drunk on his kisses.

“I love kissing you, baby. I can fucking kiss you forever but we have to stop because I’m not fucking you here. And believe me I would fuck you anywhere, anytime, just not here.”

She laughed and nuzzled his neck. “Okay, my Viking.”

Just the sound of her voice filled with want almost had him forgetting why he didn’t want to fuck her where everyone could hear. And her calling him her Viking had his aching cock begging for release. He just held her, soothing both of them before he stood and carefully set her on her feet.

“We need to get you out of here, little bird. If you and your boys aren’t seen to hit the road to Umhlanga it might raise some suspicions.”

Hawk grabbed her hand and dragged her out of the conference room. His little bird was smiling and he grinned as he looked down at her. Her eyes were no longer dead, they were sparkling. Those fierce dark eyes of his little bird sparkling up at him filled him with warmth.

He had given up on love a long time ago. But he had never felt like this before, not even with Candy.

This, this thing he had with this dangerous woman was real. Very fucking real.

And there was no fucking way he was ever going to let her go.
