CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN

image

DC

I watched as he walked away and went over the questions he had asked. I needed Skel and his computer but he was with Gav, getting ready to blow a warehouse sky high. I didn’t want to approach my dad or Tiny because they would have to tell Freeze. But there was another man I could ask and I knew if I explained he would keep my questions to himself.

Alien.

I sat pretending interest in the conversations going on around me, while in my head I quietly weighed all my options. Over and over. The only answer I came up with was that I had to do everything in my power to save my new family.

When I made my excuses Molly held my hand for a few seconds, without saying a word she understood and didn’t ask any questions. I ran up to our room, locking the door behind me. I was so paranoid about being overheard I went into the bathroom, locked the door, turned on the shower and only then made the call.

Drawing in a deep breath I waited as it rang. On about the eighth ring he answered, sounding pissed off and surrounded by other voices.

“A, it’s me. Can you talk?”

And then he covered like I knew he would.

“Hey baby, let me take this outside where these fuckers can’t listen to me talking dirty to you.”

I heard laughter that faded as he walked away.

“Okay, I’m outside in the yard. What do you need?”

“I need to put together what the two bitches gave us. I need to find out who the woman is they were both talking about. Do you remember?”

Alien laughed. And of course he would, the man had a brain like a damned computer. He remembered everything and could see the patterns where no one else could.

“This is fucking club business and you know how deep the shit would be if anyone found out I talked to you. So keep that in mind, please. I know what you’re looking for and I’ve been looking into it on this side. It just made no fucking sense that a man like Speedy would let some bitch tell him what to do. Unless that bitch was someone to be feared. And there is only one who fit the little bit of information that we have. She has the high class English accent, the cold voice, but her name isn’t May. The girl only heard part of the conversation and got it wrong. Your man is in deep shit, babe. Somewhere along the line he crossed this woman and she’s making moves to destroy him. The way I’m reading it she’s set to take out all the Iron Dogz officers and take over the club. Or so she fucking thinks. Don’t know who fed her the bullshit that Hawk Walker was a pussy and would be easy to eliminate because nothing could be further from the truth. The man is fucking lethal, everyone knows it. I have a suspicion this might lead back to Jane Warne and Big Ed Morrison, but it’s only a suspicion. I’ve got no evidence that they’re involved but I have this burning in my gut that tells me they are.”

I didn’t need evidence because I had the same burning in my gut that told me they were definitely part of the plot to get rid of my old man. I was so sure of it I would bet my shiny new Dr Martens on it, and I loved those boots.

Jane and Ed would have to wait, I would get to them soon enough. What I needed right now was the name of the woman at the top of this shit pile.

“So who is she?”

Alien was silent and all I could hear was him breathing. And then he drew in a breath as if he had made a decision.

“You need to brace for this, DC. She’s close to a very good friend of yours.”

“Just spit it out, A. Who is she?”

“Pixie’s step-grandmother, Winifred Harrison Maingarde. Along with her brothers she heads up one of the biggest crime families in Europe and Southern Africa.”

I was stunned. Pixie? My boss, Pixie, who wouldn’t harm a fly? And her bitch of a step-ogre being a crime boss implicated her? Never!

“Not Pixie. She wouldn’t, she’s not like that.”

“You’re right. She’s not involved but Dominick is.”

Oh fuck. Fuckity, fuckity, fuck!

I leant against the vanity and breathed, I just breathed. Alien’s revelation explained so much about my boss. She was the sweetest person I knew with a heart as big as the African continent. And she loved her brother even though he hardly acknowledged her. Could it be that he was keeping her safe by keeping away from her? Maybe...most probably.

“You can’t say anything to her, DC. It would put her life in danger. That old bitch is fucking dangerous. The same goes for you, keep your mouth shut. I’m not sure how far the rot has spread through both our clubs. She has to have her puppets ready to take over once Hawk and his officers are gone.”

I found it almost impossible to believe that any of the men in Hawk’s club would be involved in something as vile as human trafficking.

“I’ll be careful, the only one I’ll talk to will be Hawk. I have to tell him, A.”

“Yes, you do. He has to cover his ass and the asses of the men in his club, babe. Skel and I are working on it on the down low and as far as we know it’s all set to go down over the next few days. Skel picked up some chatter on the dark web about a take down, but no one is saying who is being taken down or how. He will follow it up once this morning’s shit is done. Tell Hawk to get Ziggy on it, Skel left him some crumbs to follow on the dark web. I’ve got to get back inside before someone comes looking for me. You take care of yourself, babe. Watch your fucking back, okay?”

“I will and the same goes for you. Be careful A, I don’t want to have to go looking for a new trainer when we get back home.”

Alien laughed and she heard another voice joining his, and her friend covered his ass. My mouth hung open as I listened to the shit he was sprouting.

“Okay babe, glad I could help you take care of that wet little pussy of yours. I will be back soon and then I’m going to fuck that little ass so fucking hard you won’t be able to fucking breathe or sit for days.”

Holy shit. I stabbed my finger at the face of my phone ending the call.

Siiiieeess! (Yuck) That was way more than I wanted to know about your freaking sex life A.” I muttered. “Need to go wash my ears out with bleach now, ugh.”

Turning the water off I unlocked the bathroom door and rushed out into our room. A room heavy with emotion and Hawk sitting on the bed watching the door of the bathroom, his face like stone. I knew he had heard me talking but he said nothing just looked at me and waited. I walked to him clasped his face in my hands and brought my own close enough our noses almost touched. And whispered.

“Is this room secure? Has it been checked for bugs or cameras or shit like that?”

His frown and nod had me sagging against him with relief.

“Okay. I just talked to Alien and we compared notes on the two interrogations. We worked it out, we know who she is. Do you?”

Shadows flitted through his beautiful eyes and my man breathed in deep before he nodded. Shit.

“I know it is club business and I shouldn’t ask but I have to. Do you, the Iron Dogz I mean, do business with her?”

Hawk stood, set me away from him and walked to the window, silently staring out at whatever was out there. Turning back he sat on the window ledge and just looked at me. My heart clenched in fear. And then he started letting me in.

“What I’m about to tell you stays here, between the two of us. Between Hawk and DC. You can’t talk about this to anyone because to talk means one or both of us will die. And that’s fucking unacceptable.”

I nodded my agreement because my voice was frozen in my throat. This did not sound good and I had a really bad feeling in my gut.

“I can’t give you everything but I’ll give you what I can. I think some of it you already know. You know we’re not as clean as the Road Warriors are. We haven’t run drugs or guns for the Maingarde Organisation for quite a few years and we won’t ever again. But, sometimes, not very often, we will do a favour for one of our other old friends. We definitely don’t work with poachers or human traffickers, never have, never will. Knowing that our businesses have been used to smuggle kidnapped children out of the country is something we won’t forgive or forget.”

Hawk took in a deep breath and I could see he had made a decision. I wasn’t surprised by the name, it was as I had suspected but had hoped wasn’t true.

“We have been doing business with Dominick Maingarde for a long time. We have an agreement that outlines exactly what we will or won’t transport for him. Now our agreement has been broken. Dom and I will have to sit down and talk. I don’t know when but what I do know is when it goes down I want you somewhere safe, somewhere his organisation can’t reach you. I’m not taking any chances with your life.”

My heart leapt in my chest. My man and his club were in deep shit. Very, very deep shit.

“Do you trust him?”

“I did. Now, I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next.”

“Alien said Skel found something about an imminent take down on the dark web, and he said Ziggy must check it out and that he left him some crumbs. Whatever the hell that means. The thought of you getting hurt or worse scares me, Hawk. I can’t lose you when I’ve just found you.”

It actually more than scared me and I could no longer stay away from him. He opened his legs, held his arms out and I went to him. He pulled me between his legs, holding me against his chest, the side of his face against the side of my head.

“I’ll get Ziggy on it as soon as we’re done here. Let’s get through the shit waiting for us today, little bird, before we tackle the rest of it. We are going to work with the Road Warriors today but I’m not entirely comfortable with it. I do not trust Freeze, something about him is off.”

It was time to explain about Freeze. It wasn’t a club secret but it wasn’t general knowledge either. After taking in a deep breath I explained.

“His name should be enough to clue you in on how he handles everything. He’s frozen inside, has been since his old lady was gunned down in a drive-by years ago. There were rumours, and there still are today, that a woman Freeze had been banging on the side ordered the hit on his old lady. He shut those rumours down ruthlessly. He used to be a nice man, always laughing and joking. But he was also a man who stepped out on his old lady regularly. Everyone, including his old lady, knew about it. You know the ‘what happens at the club stays at the club’ kind of shit. After she died it all stopped. No more club whores, no more whores on runs, no more picking up random women but it was too little too late. Unfortunately his wife wasn’t the only person he lost. Her parents went to court and petitioned for full custody of their granddaughter. During the hearing it was revealed that Freeze’s wife had started divorce proceedings. His infidelity and being a mostly absentee parent was cited as reasons for the divorce, and there were rumours that a woman with a bad reputation had been named in those papers. He lost his daughter. Both losses were his fault.”

I stayed silent for a beat before I gave him the rest of my hastily put together theory. Because suddenly it just seemed to make sense.

“If the woman he’d been banging was named in those papers, and she ordered the drive-by to shut it down it would explain a lot. I am almost certain he has been waiting years to get even, to avenge the death of his old lady and the loss of his daughter. What if that woman is the Maingarde bitch? She’s about the right age and she was and still is beautiful enough to seduce most men. And she had the manpower, even then. It would have been easy to set it all up.”

Hawk silently looked at me then shook his head from side to side.

“Baby, if Freeze stuck his cock in that old bitch’s snatch I know why he’s called Freeze, it’s because she fucking froze his dick. Fuck, we never learn, do we, babe? Always sticking our cocks where they do not belong. You know what? Let Freeze sort out his own fucking mess. All I’m interested in is saving my club. Freeze and his shit can wait for the next time the sky falls.”

“You’re right. We have enough to worry about today without adding Freeze to that pile.”

Straddling Hawk’s thighs I slid my arms around his neck and rubbed my cheek against his, loving the soft scratchiness of his beard. As we kissed I ran my fingers along the short hair above his ears, sliding my fingers up and back over his tight braid. We kissed long and slow, heat slowly spreading through my chest and down, way down, starting tingles between my legs. I felt him harden against me and smiled against his mouth as I rubbed against his rigid cock.

“Stop that, DC. Not fucking you now.” He groaned as he ended the kiss and I straightened.

“I know. I just wanted to give you something hard to carry with you. You know, like a hard cock to show those bitches downstairs what they can no longer touch.”

Hawk laughed as he dragged me out of the room, locked the door behind us and led me back downstairs. At least the worry wasn’t as heavy in his eyes anymore. I had made him laugh.

He might be laughing but I wasn’t. I knew Freeze. He wouldn’t hesitate to destroy anyone who got in his way. There was a reason he was the national president of the Road Warriors MC, not only was he damned scary but he would do anything for his club, no matter what.

But the loss of his family......where would that lead him?

I wondered if his club was still his first priority. Or did his involvement with the Maingarde’s go further than any of us knew?

And my dad? Where did he fit into this mess?

And who were the puppets the bitch had lined up to take over Hawk’s club?

Were they Hawk’s men or were they men she would slot into the club once she eliminated Hawk?

So many questions with no answers. But I needed to find them. I needed to help my old man any way I could. I needed to lighten the load on his shoulders right now.
