Dear Fairy Man,
Please come and take me somewhere I need to go soon.
Love, Annamae
Before sealing and mailing this letter, she illustrated it. Danny watched as she crayoned a figure with dark curly hair and a huge curly beard and a long apple green gown.
“What’s that cigar-looking thing?” asked Danny, stirring his chocolate milk.
“A boat.”
“Where do you need to go?”
Annamae drew blue water around the boat.
“Where do you want him to take you?”
She added some grass at the bottom.
“Where—”
“I haven’t decided yet.”
Danny swigged the milk, then burped deep and slow with his mouth open. “What about wings?”
“What?”
“Don’t fairies have wings?”
Annamae pulled out her bottom lip and studied her drawing. After a long moment, she added wings.
