1. Draco and Solon were the two great legislators of Athens. Draco’ code (621BC) was effectively the first thorough set of laws; thirty years later Solon repealed most of them (many were harsh – hence the term ‘Draconian’) and established a revised set of laws and a new democratic constitution for Athens.
