Thea’s feet hovered above the seabed as she circled her two acquisitions. Reaching out a tender hand she stroked light fingertips down the boy’s temple and along his jaw. He turned adoring eyes on her, and she gloated, practically purring.
This one had promised much, but had slipped from her grasp when Hunter intervened. Time to make up for that now, now that she had Harvey here, his little playmate with him. And even better, both were sure to bring the golden surf rescuer after them. It was just a matter of time.
She floated closer still, then froze as a tremor of energy reached her through the water. Her attention instantly shifted, and she strained to understand what she sensed. Was it Hunter, coming to intervene? No, not to intervene. She had underestimated her new ally. Excitement made her quiver, her pulse racing.
She looked at her two docile companions. Better to have them nearby; more leverage was always wise. Beckoning playfully, she rose through the water and the young couple followed, trailing helplessly in her wake. Together the trio sped upwards, angling inland as Thea raced to where she sensed Hunter waiting for her, stopping only to leave the young couple in a safe place for later.
