Chapter 5

Getting ready for the dance, I take my time picking out the perfect dress. It’s a good thing I came prepared. My dress is a sparkly black mermaid style. There is a slit almost all the way up my thigh. The back is open showing off my art and the v neck plunges just low enough to get a glimpse of cleavage.

I’ve no idea why it's so important to me to leave a lasting impression on him. Actually, I do know. When he’s not talking out of his ass like he did after the first time we slept together, he’s actually a wonderful companion.

We both seem to have quite a bit in common beyond our love for tattoos. He does seem a bit more restrained than my more natural laid back nature. At least he’s that way until you get a few drinks into him, then he seems to blossom almost like a butterfly.

If I could just get that man one hundred percent of the time instead of the stiff he usually is, I could easily fall in love with him. I’m just not yet sure if that is a good thing or not.

Could he ever love me just as I am or would he want me to be more like my parents? Stiff and formal, never even showing the least bit of affection for each other much less a child.

I feel a shiver run down my back at the thought. Hell no! I will never be that kind of woman.

Giving myself one last look over in the mirror, I open the door, stepping out into the hallway. Looking up, I see that Taylor is already standing there waiting for me.

“Am I late?” I ask, looking around for a clock but not finding one.

“No. Actually you’re right on time. I just stepped out the door myself.” He smiles.

I watch as his eyes seem to rake slowly over my body as if he is imagining me standing here naked in the hallway. Goosebumps pop up over my skin. Seeing them, his smile deepens on his face.

“You look beautiful.” He whispers.

“Thank you.” I barely get out through the pounding I hear in my own ears. The black suit and tie he’s wearing make me want to reconsider the dance. We could just spend the night in my room.

“Shall we?” He asks, holding out his arm for me to take.

Giving him a smile of my own, I take his arm as we head towards the ballroom.

Arriving a few minutes later, I look around in wonder. They’ve decorated the place so that it seems you’re walking around in a world of ice.

“Oh, wow.” I breathe out, catching sight of the magnificent whale ice sculptor sitting in the middle of the room. “It looks like a fairy tale here.” I look up at Taylor to see his own reaction but see that he’s still looking directly at me.

“Yes it does.” He whispers.

I feel my face flush at his words. I can’t remember any man ever looking at me in such a way. It feels amazing and I want more of it.

“Should we get dinner first or wait until later?” I ask.

“Let’s go enjoy a lobster dinner first. That way the drinks tonight don’t get to me so badly.” His own face flushes and I can’t hide my smile at the thought of his reaction last time.
