“Passengers that are going ashore at Haines please report to the rear gangway.” crackles from an overhead speaker. When I found out Arin signed up for shore leave to visit the village of Haines, I signed up too.
Arriving at the gangway, I’m surprised to find only Arin and Melinda waiting to go ashore. Melinda has Mouse tucked up under her arm. I know this is just a small stop but I thought more people would be interested.
Just before the boat is lowered we’re joined by another man. He looks familiar but it’s probably just from being on the ship the last few days.
“Hi, I’m Spencer.” He introduces himself. After a round of introductions the crew starts up the skiff and we head ashore.
On reaching the dock, we are directed to a catamaran docked just a few slips away. “Ladies and gentlemen, that boat will take you on your day tour of Glacier Bay.”
As we make our way over I notice Spencer hanging back. Maybe he’s asking questions? Something about him is setting off my instincts. I’ll be sticking to Arin like glue. She’s walking slightly ahead of me when I reach up and snag her hand in mine.
