DANA SAT AT HER DESK tallying some receipts, more than a week after helping hot detective Troy Anders solve the latest murder of the wealthy oil magnate who had moved to Berry Cove. She was feeling on top of the world. Was there a chance for them to be together? Could she really date a detective?
Her thoughts were interrupted by the door swinging open.
“What is it?” Dana asked Katie as Katie rushed into the back office at the café. Her facial expression was pained.
“It looks as if the town gossip is about to be the town news.”
“What?” Dana said. “What do you mean?”
“Gerdie-Sue’s been arrested on suspicion of murder.”
“Gerdie-Sue? Suspicion of murder? No way. I don’t believe it. Gerdie-Sue is a lot of things. A busy body, big mouth, life of the party, but a murderer? How? Why? She has so much money and she’s always happy.”
“Is she?” Katie said, arching a brow.
“Katie, I know you’ve had your time with Gerdie but do you really believe it? What happened?”
“Well, it looks as if a stranger came to town asking questions about Gerdie and telling the girls at the salon how Gerdie’s got a past that she wouldn’t want anyone to know about. The girl looked as if she wanted to exact some kind of revenge on Miss Sue.”
“Well, that’s it then. Why believe someone who looks as if they’re out to get Gerdie-Sue.”
“Well, that’s exactly it. My girl turned up dead.”
“The girl who was bad-mouthing Gerdie-Sue?”
Katie nodded slowly. “Hmm-mmm.”
“Oh, boy. This is not looking good at all. But what does that have to do with Gerdie-Sue?”
“You’d better ask your hot detective friend there. He might know a thing or two.”
Oh, no. Here we go again.
