Erica, with the pressure put on her by Shania Kempe, crumbled. She couldn’t afford to jeopardise her future in the Amethyst Coven.
Firmly believing honesty was the best policy, she confessed to the intimidating mother of her best friend that she’d been fiddling with their family business.
Shania took it rather well, which only put Erica further on edge. “Ok, tell me what you know.”
Erica pointed at her temples and said, “See for yourself?”
Shania nodded and closed her eyes.
Imagining she was reaching out to Erica physically, she envisioned her fingers touching the young girl’s temples and then pushing through her suntanned skin into her brain.
Shania was soon immersed in a ‘disco’ kind of setting with pulsating lights from Erica’s over-active neurons all around her.
Memories were always kept at the back of the brain in a large pink box. Walking through the girl’s mind, Shania soon found what she was looking for.
She opened the box and indulged in only the past three days of memories. She had no interest in anything else.
The memories were each contained in their own little ‘book’ so to speak. Shania merely had to pick each one up and flick through the ‘pages’ in order to see a fast-forwarded version of what Erica Atwood had been up to.
When she finished, only a couple of minutes later, she opened her eyes and studied the petrified girl before her.
“I see your intentions are honourable, Miss Atwood. I admire that, and I admire your honesty. However, with something as big as this, you should have sought higher authority to aid you in your tasks.”
Erica’s cheeks flushed pink. “I know and I’m really sorry, but I just wanted to help Katana. We didn’t know how bad it was going to get.”
“Have you spoken to anyone else about this?”
Erica shook her head.
“Excellent.”
With that, Shania reached forwards and touched Erica’s temples with both hands. She then surged dark vines of energy into the young witch’s mind to erase any memories from the past three days that concerned the Kempe family.
Erica gasped. For the briefest of moments her face went blank as her mind rebooted itself back to current reality. “I’m totally ready for this exam, Mrs Kempe,” Erica said, giving the older woman a beaming smile. “I know I can do this.”
Shania grinned and stood up. “Perfect. Shall we go in?”
