TWO 8-OUNCE JUICE-STYLE SERVINGS (5 MG THC PER SERVING)
I WAS NAMED AFTER MY DADDY’S MOTHER, Cedella, and star fruit was her favorite fruit. Star fruit has a sweet-and-sour thing happening that makes it a nice, mellow mixer with the pungency of freshly juiced carrot, ginger, and lime. Sometimes we’d get a nice blend like this from Juicy, the juice man whose cart was—and still is—in front of Tuff Gong, my family’s recording studio in Kingston, Jamaica. Juicy used to juice for Daddy, and he’ll still juice for whoever comes his way. This juice contains a good amount of ginger to put some fire in your belly. Use less—or more!—as you like.
1½ pounds star fruit, ends trimmed (4 to 6 star fruit depending on how big they are)
3-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and roughly chopped
3 fingers fresh turmeric, peeled and roughly chopped (or ½ teaspoon ground turmeric)
⅔ cup fresh lemon or lime juice (or a combination of the two)
4 medium carrots, peeled and roughly chopped
1 cup ice water
3 to 4 tablespoons cane sugar, to taste
1 to 2 teaspoons CannaOil, made with coconut oil
If making juice: Add the ice water and blend until smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl and stir in 1 teaspoon CannaOil (the oil is added after straining so you don’t waste any CannaOil in the discarded solid matter). Pour into glasses and serve.
