ALOE AND SUGAR BODY SCRUB

MAKES 1 APPLICATION

¼ cup coarse brown sugar (such as demerara)

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil or hemp seed oil

½ teaspoon CannaOil (optional)

1 tablespoon aloe vera gel (or fresh aloe, see below)

Combine the brown sugar, olive oil, CannaOil (if using), and aloe vera gel in a small bowl and mix together well. Apply to your body and face using a circular motion to exfoliate. Rinse off, alternating between cold and warm water, then gently pat your skin dry.

EXTRACTING FRESH ALOE

Carefully remove a long aloe leaf from the plant by cutting it at an angle at the base of the stalk (the middle leaves are thicker and contain the most gel). Let the leaf rest in an upright position, cut side down, for 15 minutes, then wash the leaf to remove any leftover sap. Place the leaf on a cutting board, remove any thorny edges, then halve the leaf lengthwise and use a spoon to scoop out the gel from inside the leaf. Whatever gel you don’t use can be refrigerated in an airtight glass jar for up to 1 year.
