As I look back over my half century of working with overfat and out-of-shape people, I can remember often being asked:
What’s the single most important factor in getting a lean, strong body for life?
Over five decades, my answers have broadened. Initially, I would have said a reduced-calorie diet. Later, a reduced-calorie, carbohydrate-rich diet. Later still, I would have brought in the importance of strength training. After that, I would have modified the answer to negative-accentuated strength training. And now I certainly have to include the impacts of sipping ice water throughout the day, the new discoveries related to brown fat and the cold plunge, plus the thermodynamics formula of transferring fat, killing it, and finally keeping it off.
But today, as I reexamine all my successful programs, I see clearly that the real power, the authentic synergy, is in the mix:
Reduced-calorie, carbohydrate-rich eating plan
Negative-accentuated strength training
Superhydration
Heat and cold transfer
Remember: 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 16. That’s the synergy of combining a correct eating plan, proper negative-accentuated training, superhydration, and heat and cold transfer into a successful blend.
On this page, this winning team is shown graphically in six circles under the heading “Thermodynamic Synergy.” You’ll notice that the big circle encloses four times the area of the smaller circles. That’s thermodynamic synergy. You can now visualize why Killing Fat is such a powerful program for body transformation. You not only lose fat, but you build muscle simultaneously…all at an accelerating rate.
With thermodynamic synergy in full bloom, that inner circle, labeled “Killing Fat,” will expand to the size of the outer circle. That’s a major goal. When it happens, there will be no stopping you and your transforming body.
Now imagine the inverse of the diagram: each of your fat cells shrinking synergistically from the size of the biggest circle down to the size of the smallest circle. On a microscopic level, that’s what is happening inside the majority of your fat cells.
Here’s to you getting the right combination…for a life filled with thermodynamic synergy.
Sometimes the concept of thermodynamic fat transfer is understood better by observing a behavior that most dogs display.
Ever have your dog misbehave inside your home? If so, you might chase the mutt outside, shouting, “Out, dog, out!” But once outside, your dog whimpers and hangs around the door, waiting impatiently to get back inside.
Fat, once it leaves your body, reacts like a misbehaving dog put outside. It paces around nearby, waiting for the opportunity to get back in. Remember, you really don’t lose fat—you only transfer the heat from it. But where do you transfer the heat to? Fat goes outside into the environment…and it usually wants back in.
Once in the environment, however—the warm gases, primarily carbon dioxide—can be used by living plants that transfer it back into the environment, or transform it into food, where it can be used again by animals, including you.
Such is thermodynamics and the interchange of fat, heat, calories, and energy. Thanks to Albert Einstein, it’s a fusion of Biology 101 and Physics 460. Again, you don’t lose fat—you relocate, displace, shuffle, and convert it into the ecosystem.
But it’s always ready to transition back inside your body. You must destroy it.
You kill fat by being aware, vigilant, and ever-mindful of thermodynamics. Fire up your muscles. Superhydrate your systems. Shiver more. Consume nutritionally dense foods, in moderation. Get extra rest and sleep.
Unlock your life to synergy. Now add thermodynamics to it.
If necessary, transfer your heat—repeatedly—until you get your leanness, strength, and metabolism just right. Keep your guard up and be ready to act and react. Understand the conditions. Be alert.
To keep your transformed body permanently lean and strong, you must have the discipline to apply the guidelines in this book, not only for six weeks or twelve weeks—but for the rest of your life. Remember, as you continue, the process does get less complex—thanks to thermodynamic synergy.
Look often at the before-and-after pictures and reexamine the stories of the individuals who have successfully kept their bodies lean. Each one has beaten the odds, with unusual discipline and extra muscle. Don’t forget that muscle adds fire, action, and stoke to your metabolism.
Appreciate often that thermodynamics is based on unchanging scientific laws. There will never be an easy way to go from fatness to leanness.
Recognize, too, that your body demands before it rewards. You have to do before you can have. When you’re tough on yourself, life becomes more purposeful, more productive, and, ultimately, less taxing. That’s the essence of synergy.
The rules I’ve challenged you with in this book are seldom glamorous and sometimes hard to face. But practicing those guidelines eventually leads to the lifestyle changes that must occur for year-after-year permanence.
Stay the course. Hurl defiance. Stand your ground. With preparation and persistence, you can do and you can have.
Excess fat: Be gone! Stay gone!
Your quest for thermodynamic synergy is being fulfilled. You’ve earned the rewards.
Blast. Destroy. Kill.
Conquer. Enjoy. Share.
