Just four ingredients and you have one of the richest, creamiest frostings ever. It’s perfect for cake, of course, but it’s also great on banana bread, pumpkin bread, and spread on top of your favorite cookie! It’s wonderful on the Vintage Cake.
One 8-ounce package cream cheese, at room temperature
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 teaspoon good-quality vanilla extract
4 cups confectioners’ sugar
¼ cup milk
Combine the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla in a stand mixer, using the paddle attachment, and blend for 1 to 2 minutes on medium speed, or until fully incorporated. Add the confectioners’ sugar, 1 cup at a time, and continue mixing until the frosting is light and creamy. For a stiffer consistency, add more confectioners’ sugar, ¼ cup at a time. If the frosting gets too stiff, add milk, a tablespoon at a time.
