EMERGENCY FUNDS
How do emergency funds differ from other sources of financial aid?
Emergency funds aid writers in severe temporary financial difficulties. Some funds give outright grants, others make interest-free loans. For support for anything other than a genuine emergency, turn to Fellowships and Grants.

CARNEGIE FUND FOR AUTHORS

Open to: playwrights. Type of assistance: emergency grant. Guidelines: playwright who has had at least 1 play or collection of plays published commercially in book form (anthologies excluded); emergency that has placed applicant in substantial verifiable financial need. MARY MASON MEMORIAL LEMONADE FUND
Open to: playwrights, translators, lyricists, librettists, composers. Type of assistance: grants up to $1000. Guidelines: resident of San Francisco Bay Area who has worked professionally or vocationally in theatre with minimum 2 years experience within the last 5 years who is diagnosed with terminal or life-threatening illness; monies cannot be used for hospital expenses.
