Would you like to assess yourself?
In each of the four major categories—True, Kind, Necessary, and Clear—we have provided twenty principles. The principles in each category cluster into one of four or five broader groups. If you are interested in evaluating yourself on where you are strong and where you need to shore up your communication content and delivery, go to www.BeforeYouHitSend.org to take our survey.
In the category of Necessary communication, for example, you will answer questions like this one in the survey:
THE INTERRUPTER (“Folks tell me I interrupt them unnecessarily, but what I say is important.”)
This falls into the Egocentric group. If you answered “Very much like me,” it points toward you saying what is unnecessary because you are preoccupied with yourself and what is important only to you. But we don’t conclude you are definitively egocentric unless you answer similarly to several other questions in this grouping.
For instance, another question would be:
THE PRYING (“Not knowing the details, I have to meddle to enable me to advance my cause.”)
If you answered “Not much like me,” perhaps Egocentric is not the group you fall into. It depends on how you answer the other questions in this cluster. Based on your answers, what unfolds is a helpful assessment of your communication strengths and challenges.
Again, go to www.BeforeYouHitSend.org for the tool, and you will receive several recommendations on how you can enhance your communications in a particular grouping.
Enjoy!
