Dear Reader,
It’s such a strange time in the world, isn’t it? I wrote The Backup Plan during COVID, and since my house was full, it took a long time. But the book is finally here (which you obviously know, since you’re holding it or listening to it ☺).
One of the things that stuck with me in this book: The kind of friends you make when you’re young, they get to know you in a way that doesn’t usually happen when you’re adults. I wanted to explore that fun dynamic. Enter Knox and Alice. Alice had a crush on Knox when they were teens, and it was definitely one-sided. So imagine what it’s like for her in the here and now to be stuck with him renovating an old Wild West inn for the foreseeable future. Good times.
And then there’s Alice and Lauren—once bffs, now struggling with who they are and if they can be friends again. Alice would say yes; Lauren would say no. So there’s that . . .
A certain scene sticks out. The three of them are shopping for materials, and each has a bad personal moment, and even though they’re all barely speaking, they are there for each other. It’s one of my favorite moments. I’d sure love to know yours, so make sure to let me know. You can find me on all social media platforms and at www.jillshalvis.com.
It’s an honor to have you read my book, so thank you for that! Happy reading!
XOXO, Jill
