68. I have shocking news. I met Oprah. And she kissed me.
Why would Oprah do that? Because I asked her to.
Why would I ask her to? Because—and excuse me in advance for sounding totally nuts—three years after meeting Oprah I think I am ready to demystify what I received from her that day: When her hand held mine, I felt her energy enter my bloodstream, and I felt a sense of calm (because I wasn’t calm). I felt connected. I felt inspired.*
I believe what happens with Oprah is that she attaches herself to this massive power source, then infuses that energy into other people through her words, her actions, and this time just her touch. I felt the force loud and clear.
And I followed her example; I used her personal power as a catalyst to tap my own. And to go for it. By asking for a kiss. And then a favor: As I was saying goodbye, I told her about a super fan who was celebrating her fiftieth birthday. Oprah got excited and told me to pull out my phone to video her birthday message.
Here is what she said:
Hello, it’s me. Oprah. I hear you’re turning fifty. Let me just tell you something. It is the best—did you hear me?—THE BEST time of your life. Because the fifties are everything that you’ve thought of and that you’ve been meaning to be. It’s a time where everything RISES to the moment, and you don’t give two pouts about what other people have to say about who you are. It means that you rise into the fullness of yourSELF. You get to step up and step out into your life in a way that you never have before. So happy birthday. Happy birthday. Happy NEW LIFE is what it really is. And don’t let anybody give you any crap about what it means to turn fifty, ’cause it is THE GREATEST. I’m telling you.
If you haven’t turned fifty, don’t worry: You don’t have to wait! Personal power is a choice at any age. You are never too young—and never too old—to rise up to the opportunity of the moment.
