Chapter Twenty-nine
Marcus knew that Gracie hated that he had to endure so much drama so early into their new relationship. Little did she know that he was happy to be around. He’d stepped up to the plate, and he didn’t mind giving his all. He knew that Gracie would do the same for him. In so many ways, she already had. He was proud that he was still around to help her through it all, and even happier to help her bring in a blessed New Year that she deserved.
When Gracie opened her door on New Year’s Eve, Marcus was there smiling with roses. Gracie flung herself into his arms and hugged him so tight that he wasn’t sure she would ever let him go. He didn’t want her to.
“You never have to let go, you know,” Marcus whispered into her ear.
“I know,” Gracie said with a slight giggle, “but we’ll miss watch night service if I don’t.”
They laughed.
“I know,” Marcus said, “but seriously, if you ever think of putting up a guard against me, don’t. I won’t hurt you. Guaranteed.”
Gracie’s heart warmed to near boiling. She placed a small kiss on his lips and whispered, “Let’s go.”
The church service was awesome. The theme, “Out with the old, in with the new,” was just the inspiration Gracie needed for her new year. She had her family’s love, a man who adored her, and a Savior who did it all.
As she listened to the sermon, she decided that she was going to begin the New Year with a heart of forgiveness. She wasn’t ready to see Dillian or Kendra yet, but she could forgive them. She knew she had the strength to do that, especially with God on her side.
The service progressed, and she and Marcus swayed to the music. Gracie didn’t know if anyone else had a reason to shout and praise God. She did. As the crowded sanctuary counted down to the New Year, Gracie reached for the hills from whence she sought her help and praised the Lord for herself and for those who couldn’t.
