Our Lord in the Attic

After the Alteration, when Amsterdam officially became Protestant, many hidden churches were built throughout the city. Bourgeois merchant Jan Hartman added this chapel to his house in 1663. It was extended in around 1735 to create more seating space. The building became a museum in 1888, and displays fine church silver, religious artifacts and paintings. Next door to the church is an exhibition space, café and shop.
