Epilogue

Beth and Lang decided to marry on her birthday, August first which gave them a year to plan. Sam Morgan was working with them and had designed a beautiful modern home that blended with its surroundings as if it had been there forever.

Finally, it was time for Leonora and Ben Senior to head off on their two months of back-to-back cruises. Lang flew back to Boston to pack up his condo. At least for now, he planned to keep it as an investment as it was in a prime spot in Cambridge and had already tripled in value since he purchased it. After much discussion, some of which featured Lang falling on his sword and offering to step away from the company, his partners had proposed he stay on and that they establish Rambler Sports West, with all their usual lines as well as the one-of-a-kind riding gear they were developing for disabled riders. This would allow him time to help manage the winery until they found the right person to take over.

He had been away less than a week but spoke to Beth three and four times a day, more if he could locate her. Toward the end of his stay, condo packed up, he phoned late one evening from his hotel room at the Marlowe. “Hey, sweetheart. I’m missing you so much it hurts.”

“You in your room?”

“Yup. Where’d you think I’d be at eleven at night?”

“Just wondering.”

“Your voice sounds funny. Beth, is everything alright?”

“Absolutely. Never better.”

“You haven’t found anyone else, have you?”

“No, and I hope you haven’t. Otherwise the next few minutes might be a little embarrassing.”

“Beth, you’re starting to scare me. What’s going on?” Someone knocked at the door, and Lang hopped up. “Who the heck’s that? Hold on, sweetheart.”

When Lang opened the door, he found her, ear to her phone, small bag slung over her shoulder. “Got room for one more in there?” she asked, smiling.

As his arms reached out, drawing her close, Lang experienced what was now becoming a familiar sensation. In Beth Morgan’s arms, he was home. For the first time in his life.

“I love you,” she whispered, trailing kisses down his neck.

“I love you, too, my beautiful cowgirl. Come in and let me show you how much.”
