STONE FRUITS

I don’t care what the calendar says: The first day of summer for me is the day I bite into my first Texas peach of the year and feel the juices dripping down my elbow. The only problem with peaches is that they go from underripe to overripe really quickly. While I have eaten a basket of peaches in one day, I prefer to have some handy recipes ready for when I have too many ripe peaches. Peach salsa, grilled peach salad, and peach pizza are some of my favorites.

While mangoes get flown in year-round, the ataulfo mangoes in the spring are my favorite. If you live in a warm climate, they might grow near you. (We have a short local season here in Austin.) I love adding a pop of sweetness to savory food, and mangoes are perfect for that.
