In this part, you begin to read music. You’re presented with the grand staff, the treble and bass clefs, and all the note names. You take the plunge into half steps and whole steps, which are the first steps of musical intervals, and you also get to know scales and the building blocks of chords. We guide you through key signatures and the Circle of Fifths, which shows the relationship among the different keys and chords in music. After discussing intervals in detail, this part closes with instruction in identifying and creating chords and chord progressions.
