Chapter 4

Kinematics

We begin our review of motion with the study of kinematics. Kinematics is the study of how things move; that is, how far things move (distance and displacement), how fast they move (speed and velocity), the rate of change of velocity (acceleration), and how much time passes during the changes. Kinematics is the study of the relationships between all of these things without regard to why something is moving, a question we will take up in the next chapter.
