APPENDIX 2

Curcumin Absorption

Curcumin has very poor absorption. Some nutraceutical companies have added black pepper (bioperine) in supplement form to curcumin to enhance its absorption; however, black pepper may have some modest negative gastrointestinal side effects, and the level to which it increases absorption is controversial, with some scientists claiming it has only a minimal effect.

Combining curcumin with medium-chain triglycerides and lecithin has been shown to increase its absorption dramatically compared to a dry standard form of curcumin. Some studies suggest a nearly thirtyfold increase in absorption. Visit www.DrMasley.com/resources for product details.
