Although the Screwdriver was originally created as part of a marketing ploy for Smirnoff, it has become one of the simplest and most popular drinks in the world. Featuring a bit more kick than a Mimosa, the Screwdriver is a favorite of brunchers everywhere and is the perfect mid-morning drink for a lazy Saturday. Add a unique twist to your Screwdriver by rubbing a bit of pomegranate juice on the rim of your Mason jar. This will add a sharp bite of flavor to spice up your drink!
Makes 1 serving.
1 part vodka
2 parts orange juice
1 dash pomegranate juice (for rimming)
1 orange slice (garnish)
1. Fill Mason jar with ice. Add vodka, and top off with orange juice.
2. Dab your finger with a bit of pomegranate juice and rub it along the edge of the jar.
3. Garnish with an orange slice (if you’re feeling fancy) and enjoy.
VARIATIONS
Any type of alcohol can be mixed with orange juice, and most of these adaptations inevitably take the name of the country for which the chosen liquor is best known. Depending on your choice of alcohol, you might find yourself making an American Screwdriver (bourbon), Mexican Screwdriver (tequila), Cuban Screwdriver (rum), German Screwdriver (schnapps), or any one of a dozen others.
Crowd Pleaser
The Screwdriver is an ideal drink for whipping up in large batches. Just pick up a carton or two of orange juice and a bottle of vodka and combine them in a large punch bowl! For a festive look, float some pineapple wheels or maraschino cherries amongst the ice in the bowl.
