Maybe the best thing to come out of Cuba since cigars, the Mojito is one of the most popular drinks in the world. Minty drinks are always delicious, and the Mojito is so simple to make that it almost feels like cheating. White rum, hint of mint, splash of lime, and presto: refreshment. For full effect, be sure to get yourself a seersucker suit or a sun hat to wear while you drink.
Makes 1 serving.
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 lime (juiced)
1 cup crushed ice
3 to 6 mint sprigs (garnish)
2 oz white rum
6 oz club soda
10 mint leaves
2 or 3 lime wheels (garnish)
1. Add the sugar and fresh lime juice to your Mason jar and stir until the sugar has dissolved.
2. Add 1/4 of the crushed ice, then take 10 mint leaves, rub them over the edge of the jar, then tear each one in half and add on top of the ice. Stir again.
3. Add the rum, club soda, and remaining ice. Stir one last time, then add a few mint sprigs and a lime wheel for garnish and enjoy. Stick the lime wheels into the drink itself for a little extra visual flair.
VARIATIONS
As with many popular drinks, there are countless variations of the Mojito, most centering around the primary alcohol. The Mexican Mojito substitutes tequila for rum, the English Mojito substitutes gin, the Dirty Mojito substitutes spiced rum, etc.
