CYCLING

Portland is a bike town. There are more bicycle commuters per capita here than any other US city. There are bike lanes, bike boxes (at an intersection a section of a traffic lane designated as a visible and safe area where bicyclists can wait out a red light), and designated bike routes. We are home to the nation’s largest naked bike ride and, coming in summer 2016, a bike share program. Beyond the city’s commuter-based attributes, the area’s nature and accompanying scenery all but beg to be taken in at a pace slower than that afforded by an automobile. Whether you’re looking for thrilling in-city rides, thigh-burning climbs, flat pedals, rolling hills, technical singletrack, or all of the above, it’s here.

An optional stop on the Forest Park Loop, the St. Johns Bridge affords great views of a number of Cascade peaks on a clear day.
