Dear Reader,

I was still a very new critical care nurse in June of 1985 when our helicopter transport service Flight for Life took its debut flight. A whole new era in medicine was born. Helicopter transport services popped up all over the country and trauma patients everywhere benefited from this excellent service. A week before Christmas, while serving desserts at the hospital holiday party, I noticed a colleague of mine was crying. When I asked her what was wrong, she explained she’d just found out her sister had died. Her sister was a flight nurse for a helicopter service in Colorado. The pilot misjudged the weather and the entire crew died in the resulting crash. My friend was slightly consoled by knowing her sister died doing something she absolutely loved. This tragic incident made me want to write this story.

The Flight Doctor’s Lifeline is about helicopter pilot Reese Jarvis and flight doctor Samantha Kearn. Reese keeps his distance from relationships since losing both his fiancée and his best friend in a horrible helicopter crash. Until he meets flight doctor Samantha Kearn. Samantha needs his help as she struggles to escape the stalking presence of her ex-husband who ultimately puts Reese and the entire Lifeline crew in danger. Samantha learns that falling in love doesn’t mean giving up her independence as she accepts Reese’s help. Reese must face his fear of crashing and, more so, his fear of learning to love again.

I hope you enjoy Samantha and Reese’s story.

Sincerely,

Laura Iding
