Love After Return

image

Maria Zreiq (She/They)

I make love to you under a silent orange sky,

No warplanes, no drones, no bombs,

In a bedroom that knows freedom at last,

Under a rooftop that no one will ever take from us

After a century of martyrdom,

After a century of birth,

I make love to you,

Upon a land, we call ours

The empire is ashes,

The sun sets untroubled,

I make love to you,

Knowing the battle is over,

And every wave in the sea,

Knows its rhythm and place

And you see me

All of me,

And I see you,

All of you;

The wounds,

The cuts,

The chaos,

The fucks,

The leftovers of exile,

The long-buried dreams,

The newly bloomed desires,

The serenity of knowing;

We returned home.
