Sue Lee was sitting up in bed and eating fresh strawberries with her bed partner Alex, laughing as he told her how he, too, had met Winston Churchill.
“Naked in the bathtub, smoking a cigar! The whole meeting took place in his bathroom at his home, Chartwell. Clementine was running in and out of the room, trying to hurry him along, offering us towels to wipe the perspiration as his manservant poured in more boiling water; the memory gives me nightmares.”
“Who was the other man or lucky woman?”
“Sir Jonathan, of course, don’t laugh! You try keeping a straight face during a meeting with a naked pinkish skinned British Prime Minister during his bath.” He said, stealing a strawberry from her plate.
“When you were hustling me back to this lovely hotel room last night after dinner, you told me you too knew of Mr. Yin; how so or is that classified,” She asked, reaching for his toast.
“Hustling, you’re the one who was pulling me up the stairs. We could have waited for the lift,” Alex said, running his finger around her nipple.
She poked him in the ribs.” You’re avoiding my question again.”
“I’m easily distracted, but okay, before we met, I was in Melbourne, Australia at MacArthur’s HQ; I was questioning some of the Chinese, who were loyal to the crown. About the condition in Singapore, could we smuggle someone into the country? One thing we learned about was Chinese’s turning against other Chinese to save themselves. The name Yin came up often; one older man said they were afraid to speak his name in Singapore. They devised a code so others would watch out for him. Alex reaches for his pants, pulling out a small scroll of rice paper he unfolded. He gave me this. They were passing them around in Singapore. Apparently, it is a warning.” He handed it to Sue Lee. It was in Chinese. She read it out loud, “Falling Flowers, he said it was a warning?”
“Yes, something to do with a poem, ancient, ninth century,” he said, running his finger down her belly.
“I need to take a bath and get ready before I report in,” she said, moving his hand to the right place.
“May I join you?”
“Yes, she said heavily, but let’s not invite Winston!”
