The preterit is formed in regular verbs by adding the preterit endings to the stem.
Note: The preterit is translated as the English past tense:
I spoke/I did speak Hablé
I didn’t speak No hablé
Did I speak? ¿Hablé?
In this manual I spoke will be translated with the preterit as will I did speak. In negative or interrogative verbs, I did not . . . . or did I . . . . may indicate either imperfect or preterit.
