On November 22, 2016, 402 entries from 56 classes at 27 different schools in Colorado, California, New York, and Virginia were received for The Wishing World Doolivanti Diary and Visual Art Contests. The contest was created to engage students in reading, writing, and the arts during the release of The Wishing World.
Students in the Doolivanti Diary Contest were asked to imagine their own Doolivanti, complete with the Doolivanti’s greatest fear and their special powers. Students participating in the Visual Art Contest were asked to draw their Doolivanti. On Sunday, December 11, 2016, sixteen judges (10 adults and 6 children ages 10-13) got together to determine the winners. It was a three-phase judging process that took five-and-a-half hours to complete. There were many animated conversations between judges as they defended their favorites, especially during the Visual Art Contest judging.
