I heard a loud crash and opened my eyes. The automobile had run into the fireplace. I saw the Senyors below me, fallen on the embers, and somehow I managed to jump out of the window and drag them out of that inferno. I first attended to Dona Maria Antònia, who was unhurt, and then lifted the Senyor’s body: he was unconscious. I have always been very strong and you know that at the Seminary I was in charge of moving the piano on holy days. Unfortunately, my physical strength, which serves me no purpose whatsoever, is no reflection of my courage. The Senyor’s forehead was bleeding and Dona Maria Antònia told me to carry him over to the sofa in the nearby drawing room. When I had fulfilled her request, my head started to spin and I collapsed on the floor.
In the fireplace, the automobile had started to burn.
