You’ll Need

1 package sugar-cookie dough

4 rolls or 5-ounce package hard candy in various colors

2 ½- to 3-inch cookie cutters

1-inch cookie cutters

Plastic ziplock bags

Directions

1 Sort candy by colors into plastic ziplock bags and seal. Place each bag on flat surface and crush candy with a rolling pin or mallet.

2 Preheat oven to 375˚ Fahrenheit and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or aluminum foil.

3 Roll out prepackaged cookie dough on a lightly floured surface.

4 Cut out wide shapes in dough with large cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart on cookie sheets.

5 Use smaller cookie cutter to cut out a design from center of each cookie. Hearts, triangles, and circles work well.

6 With a spoon, carefully fill cutouts with crushed candy. Try not to get candy on dough.

7 For tree ornaments, use a straw to make a small hole in top of each cookie.

8 Bake 7 to 9 minutes, until candy is melted and cookies are firm and beginning to brown around edges. Watch carefully so candy doesn’t burn.

9 Remove cookies from oven and cool until candy is hard.

10 Gently remove foil or parchment from back of cookies. To make tree ornaments, insert ribbon through hole at top.
